Can You Drive Road Trains in Early Access?

Waiting to haul a string of trailers across the outback? The Truck World: Australia road train feature is planned for a future update and is absent from the initial Early Access release. If pulling multiple trailers is your main reason to buy, wait until that feature arrives.

Road trains are the massive truck-and-trailer combinations associated with Australian outback hauling. They remain part of the game's development plans, while the launch build centers on a smaller trucking operation around the Eyre Peninsula.

Taking several delivery orders on one trip is already possible, but that cargo-planning mechanic does not mean drivable road trains are available.

What Hauling Can You Do Right Now?

The Early Access map covers the Eyre Peninsula with 9 towns and one player-owned truck. You can upgrade that truck, purchase the first two base upgrades, and play the first two story missions.

Delivery work comes in two forms:

  • Full-trailer contracts: Haul a complete trailer.
  • Individual cargo contracts: Carry separate loads on your own flat-top trailer.

You also work outside the cab. Hitching trailers, connecting hoses, refueling, and servicing the truck are hands-on tasks, giving the current build more to do between driving stretches.

Combine deliveries along your route to make more use of each trip. Pick up additional cargo when your trailer has room, and plan the journey around those deliveries. That is the current way to increase what you carry without a road train.

The handcrafted content takes approximately 3 hours, while repeatable delivery contracts offer dozens of additional hours. Buy around that existing mix of missions and repeatable hauling if it appeals to you.

Which Platforms Have the Game?

Truck World: Australia entered Early Access on November 5, 2026, on Xbox, Microsoft Store, and Epic Games Store. The announced US launch price is $29.99.

Steam is scheduled for the first half of 2027. That platform release is a separate milestone from the planned road train update; the Steam launch window should not be read as a road train release window.

An Early Access purchase includes subsequent updates and version 1.0 at no additional charge. If you prefer Steam, you can wishlist Truck World: Australia while development continues.

What Else Is Planned During Early Access?

Two additional trucks are already in development. Planned map growth includes roads from Port Augusta to Marla and the Hawker - Marree - Marla route.

Other priorities include additional cargo types, trailers, trailer interactions, base upgrades, and traffic violations with fines. These additions would expand the trucking operation beyond the launch build, alongside the future introduction of road trains.

The update targets are roughly monthly for smaller releases and every three months for major content updates, with hotfixes arriving when ready. Those are development targets, and priorities can change with player feedback.

Early Access is expected to last approximately one year, possibly longer. Some major updates may also require starting a new game because of technical changes, so keep that possibility in mind before committing to a lengthy delivery grind.
