How to Turn the Jake Brake On and Off
You can operate the Truck World: Australia jake brake directly from the cab in the beta build. Aim at the engine brake control and press your interaction button to switch it on or off. This lets you use the cockpit switch without assigning a separate engine brake button on your wheel or button box.
The interaction works like the other clickable cab controls: hover over the switch, then activate it. The engine brake control toggles between on and off. The parking brake has its own separate control, so pay attention to which switch you’re targeting.
The cab also includes interactive ignition, light, and hazard light controls. If you already use an interaction button for those switches, use that same input when targeting the engine brake.
The ignition switch lets you turn the ignition on and off from inside the cab, while the parking brake control is animated when operated. The hazard lights also flash on the truck’s exterior. Activate the hazards, then step outside to see their effect; this gives you a visible example of how cockpit interactions affect the vehicle beyond the dashboard.
Using a Logitech G29
On the G29 setup used in the beta, X was assigned to activate cockpit controls. With that assignment, targeting the engine brake switch and pressing X toggles it.
That makes X the interaction input for that setup, rather than a dedicated Jake brake shortcut. Use your assigned interaction button when following these instructions on another wheel or controller.
Wheel support extends beyond Logitech to brands including Moza, Thrustmaster, and Fanatec. The driving setup also includes adjustable mirrors and an adjustable seat position. Adjust those before settling into a delivery so you can establish your view from the cab while learning its interactive switches. These adjustments sit alongside the game’s support for a clutch, manual gearbox, and splitter, giving wheel users several separate parts of the driving setup to learn.

Engine Brake Sound and Build Differences
In the beta build, the engine brake operated without the distinctive Jake brake sound. Don’t rely on the characteristic braking noise alone when trying the cockpit toggle in that version.

The Early Access build also includes an enabled Jake brake, engine retarder, and differential lock. Keep the beta’s clickable-switch instructions separate from expectations about later builds: the game remains in active development.
The Early Access driving experience includes force feedback that communicates differences between road surfaces. Cargo loading also affects how the truck handles: the loading screen shows material weights and weight distribution, and cargo can be moved or rotated on the trailer. A loaded truck and a poorly distributed load feel different to drive. Check the displayed weight distribution while arranging cargo, before using that delivery to get familiar with the truck’s controls.
The hands-on controls extend to trailer preparation. Connecting a trailer involves aligning the fifth wheel, connecting the air lines and electrical supply, and raising the trailer legs. With individual cargo on your own flat-top trailer, you can also walk alongside the load and tighten its straps. Complete those interactions before heading out to practice with the cab controls during a delivery.
For players planning to use the Steam version:
- Its release is listed for 2027.
- Its PC platform is Windows.
- Its controller support is listed as Partial Controller Support.
The game also supports manual shifting with a clutch and splitter option. Those driving controls are separate from the cockpit interaction used to toggle the engine brake.
Automatic transmission is another option, so manual shifting is not the only way to drive the truck. The current Early Access version centers on one player-owned truck and the Eyre Peninsula, with nine towns and repeatable contracts for full trailers or individual cargo loads. That gives you delivery work in which to become familiar with the available driving controls while additional trucks and other systems remain in development.
